Children's school holiday program
featuring workshops in art, sculpting, creative writing, poetry, drama & yoga
For 6 - 12 years of age.
The School Holiday Program for 6-12 years is held for five days during winter and spring School Holiday break. This program is extremely popular with many children returning regularly for the visual art, sculpting, creative writing, poetry, drama and yoga workshops. Creatively the children are guided through numerous writing exercises that encourage the exploration of good writing practises. For children who are not yet writing, they can put their stories and poetry into pictorial form. The visual art and sculpting aspects of the program are integrated into the dramatic improvisation. Following drama warm ups, voice projection exercises and in depth acting instruction, in small groups, the children create short skits and then perform them. Other acting activities include theatre in the round and performance poetry.
The children draw, paint and sculpt what they have created in the written form. A full and invigorating week of art activities is presented relating to the theme of the programs. These may include visits to local institutions such as the National Art Gallery , National Museum and Gallery and Natural Settings such as Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve. Visits to talks by visiting and local authors are attended. Diverse ranges of artistic skills are learnt by the children, in a fun and relaxing way.
