Ella & Greta!

We are delighted to open Pet Week with this striking oil painting by long-term Young People’s Art Class student Ella Ezeragailis. Ella is an extremely creative individual who brings passionate energy and positive vibrancy to the studio.

This work celebrates Greta, a five-year-old miniature dachshund and only child to Ella’s Aunty Donna. Painted from a photograph, Ella used artistic licence to reimagine the grassy background. Greta is pictured proudly with her third-favourite toy (according to Donna) — although its squeaker has long since fallen silent!

Ella shares that the painting took her around 18 hours to complete at LAS. She found the toy the most enjoyable part to paint, while Greta’s left paw was the most challenging. Ella is thrilled with the final picture, which she says captures Greta’s “adorable personality and her very long snoot.”

She will soon personally deliver the portrait to Brisbane, where Donna has promised it will hold pride of place on her wall.

Thank you, Ella, for sharing your painting and for allowing us to begin Pet Week with such a wonderful creative expression. Congratulations on this outstanding achievement!
